I had to reinstall Windows. I do have a backup, but I don't know what the
Outlook Express file extension is. What is it?

Is there a way to simply reinstall my "inbox"? What would the file be called?

Thanks.

Outlook and Outlook Express are two entirely different apps
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/    for info on OE, or post to an OE ng (
part of internet explorer ng's)
