I do not use the "favorite folder" and it is preventing display of all my
personal folders that were available under the old outlook. this version,
2003, has some new features but i do not want that favorite folder displayed.

Outlook 2003 does not allow shortcuts to folders outside of Outlook anymore.

Actually you can still create a desktop shortcut and drag that shortcut to
Outlook's shortcuts pane.
But schunter was asking about something different -- the Favorite Folders
list at the top of the Mail navigation pane. It can't be removed. Instead of
that navigation pane, schunter might prefer to use the Folder List pane,
which shows everything.
