had outlook 03 on previous laptop. copied settings using "settings wizard" to
new laptop.

when opening outlook receiving error message "unable to open default e-mail
folders. the file E:\outlook\outlook.pst could not be opened".

This is pointing to old laptop directory.

Tried uninstalling and re-installing Office. Still getting same error
message. All other office programs wotk fine.

Did you copy the Personal Folders file Outlook is looking for to your new
laptop?

Hal,
Thanks for replying. I copied the folders to the E drive of the new laptop
and the next error message was cannot open files.

Make sure the .PST file hasn't become marked READ ONLY.  If it is, reset it
to Read/Write; Outlook will give you an Access Denied error if the .PST file
has the Read Only attribute set.

Hal,
Thanks for all your support. /finally got it working in 10 minutes. Set up
new profile using the mail icon in control panel. Then was able to open
outloook, copied my e-mails from the old system to the new using a new
personal folder, then merged everything and i have a perfect setup.

MS should warn people the save my settings wizard can create havoc in
outlook when moving between machines if the drives are not exactly the same
setup.
