I intermittently get the following message when I attempt to start Outlook
2003.. "Cannot Start Microsoft Office Outlook.  Unable to open Outlook
Window.  The set of folder can not be open.  The server is not available.
Contact your administrator if this problem persists.

Outlook open sometimes.  But usually when it's the first program open after
booting the computer.  How do I fix this problem?

I read the direction in the article you advised me to read.  Don't
understand what this means though,

To resolve this issue for future installations of Office, use the Custom
Installation Wizard to edit the MST file. To do this, follow these steps:
     1. On the Change Office User Settings page (page 10 of 24), expand
Microsoft Outlook 2003, expand Miscellaneous, and then click PST Settings.
     2. In the right pane, double-click Default location for PST files, and
then type the path that you want in the Default location for PST files box.
For example, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\.
     3. Click OK, and then follow the steps to complete the wizard. When
you have corrected the MST file, deploy Office by using the correct MST
file.

What is ...."(page 10 of 24), "  is this in a printed manual?  This
procedure seems to refer a future installation.  I have already installed
Outlook 2003.  Is there a step by step procedure so that I may correct this
problem?

Thanks

Harold

I had the same problem.
It means our outlook.pst crashed.
Fix it with scanpst.exe that located at:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033

Or you can search the file (scanpst.exe) in drive c:

- Then run scanpst
- Browse the outlook.pst you want to fix, e.g:
C:\Documents and Settings\xp\Local Settings\Applicatio
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

- Open
- Click start

Wait until the message appeared.
Then you can open your outlook
The problem solved.
