Thank you for the insite oon how to make a new data files
compatible with Outlook 97-2002. I need to insert these
files into an email and send them to someone.  The
following message occured:(operation failed).  I suspect
I need to close Outlook to send or insert the the files
but then once that is done, I can't send the files.  Am I
going to have to close Outlook completely and send the
files in Outlook express or how do I get these files to
someone else via email?

You are correct. Outlook holds open any .pst file used during the current
session until you completely exit Outlook. Close the .pst file in Outlook,
exit Outlook, then restart Outlook, and you should be able to send the .pst
file.
