one of my public folders now says "there are no items to
show in this view."  as of the morning this occured there
were hundreds of task items in there.  i'm assuming
they've been deleted by one of the users that has access
to perform such an action, since that particular public
folder on the exchange server contains no items either. it
is my understanding that if these public items were
deleted, Outlook 2000 would not keep them in any sort
of "deleted items" folder like it would other items. where
are these items kept before and after deletion (i.e. user
directory, shared location?) and/or what is the best way
for me to attempt to recover them?
thanks

See if http://support.microsoft.com/?id=178630 helps.

not really.  this folder was not set to retain deleted
items for any period of time and I have no idea which user
deleted them.  i'm guessing i'll have to try to find them
on a backup, but I don't know where the actual tasks
themselves would be located.  is that something that I can
do? if so, where do the actual items themselves reside?

The items reside(d) in the public.edb database on the Exchange Server.
