I need to know if there is a way to archive imap mail for a user that is no
longer with our company and permanently delete his account, but still be able
to view his mail after his root folder has been deleted off the server?  Is
this possible.  I can do this on pop3 with just copying the .pst file to a
dvd/cd.

Please help.

You can do the same thing with the IMAP account. Copy all the folders to a
.pst file, then save that .pst file somewhere.

So you are telling me that if we kill both the account on the server and the
mail that lives on the server we could still recover all of this persons
emails.  Please explain how this would be possible?  I thought that IMAP
lives in the server and it retrieves emails/folders  as you see them?

Did you understand my previous post? If you copy the data to folders in a
.pst file, then the copied data lives in that .pst file independent of what
happens to the server.
