I am using the Sperry add in that auto strips out the attachments and puts
them in a directory of your choice.

Unfortunatley it seems that it sometimes strips out (and wipes out) the
message as well . Has anyone experianced this? Has anyone got any ideas how
this can be overcome?

It does seem that it always messages from the same originators that are
affected, so it seems it must be something to do with the messages or the
way the attachment is attached..

I have successfully used a software called EZDETACH which
is very flexible in its options and has worked excellent.
They have not certified their products for 2003
