I posted the following under Outlook.General but did not receive a response
I though I would try here.
I recently purchase a HP Pavilion a642n with Window XP Home Edition. I
installed Norton Internet Security 2004 and Office Professional Edition
2003. I created 3 users in XP, all are Administrators. When logging on as
the first user, who is also the owner, Outlook works fine but if I log on as
a different user then I receive the following.
When Outlook starts I get the following messages
Title of Message "MS Visual C++ Runtime Library",
Body of message
"Runtime Error, Program C:/Program~1\MI1933N1\Office11\Outlook.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the application support team for more information." The
only
option is [OK] After clicking Outlook then shuts down.
After restarting Outlook the following message appears "Outlook experienced
a serious error the last time the add-in 'Norton Antis Spam Outlook plug-in'
was opened. Would you like to disable this add-in?
To reactive the add-in click about Microsoft Office Outlook on the help menu
and then Click disable items" [Yes][No]
If I click no the application runs find until the next time it is started.
I also noticed if I log on as any 'User' and try to start Outlook I receive
the error message even under the Owners log-in. If I reboot and log-in as
different user, say user #2, I receive the error message and switching to
User #1, owner, the error message occurs there also. It seem If I start up
new and log into User #1 owner, Outlook starts normal, but once I switch
users Outlook is messed up for the entire session.
Any ideas
Charlie

Please contact Norton, but they will tell you that they are looking into the
problem and that they cannot duplicate the problem. I am hoping that if
enough people complain they will fix it.
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/support_options.html
you should be able to follow the link above and go to email support and put
in a trouble ticket.
If you unistall Norton everything will work correct. It is the add-on for
Norton in outlook that is causing the problem. You can disable the Norton
add-on and that should stop the error but it will also stop Norton working
with your e-mail.

I've had the same problem w/ NIS 2004. I've found that if
I rename the following file:
X:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec
Shared\Antispam\MSOUPLUG.DLL
to msouplug.old the plug in doesn't start. NIS detects
this change and prompts you to visit their site for some
diagnostic check. Once you do it, the nag screen never
comes back (for the particular user). It would be a nice
plug-in if it didn't crash Outlook.

Yea, when you do that then the plug in does not work, which is the same as
just unchecking the add-in.

In Outlook2002 un checking the add in only disables the
plugin for that particular session of outlook. renaming
the faulty dll disables it until you decide to restore the
origional name.
