Reading pane

My reading pane will not switch off. I don't like it and switch it off (and
use Autopreview instead) but whenever I make these setting and leave the
folder view and then return they go back to reading pane on and autopreview
off. Help!

go to views. arrange by, and find define views. select Messages view and
modify - I believe the pane is under other settings.
