Opened emails showing as unread!

Can anyone help me?

I have a user who is using outlook 97 on NT4, when he opens a new email and
then closes it the email still shows as being unread.

I can't find anything on this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is due to the message class on the item. (most likely came in via pop and
the message class in not ipm.note but something like ipm.rfc822.note.
because of this the item is considered a custom message and outlook can't
change its icon from unread to read.)
