E-mail Address "Auto Complete" in Outlook 2003

In at work we have Outlook 2003 on our machines connecting to an Exchange
server.  When using Outlook there, if it recognizes a partial address, it
pops up with a list of recently used addresses matching the characters
entered so far.  Last night I installed Outlook 2003 at home where it talks
to a couple of pop server.  Unlike Outlook at work, my instance at home does
not "auto complete" addresses.  I am at a loss to find a setting to do this.
Is this feature only available when Outlook is working with an Exchange
server?  Or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Open Outlook and select Tools | Options | Prefs tab | Email Options button |
Advanced Email Options button and see if you a checkbox at the bottom
labeled "Suggest names while completing To, CC, and BCC fields".  (Thats
auto-complete and it takes a bit to get populated)

neo,

Found it!  It was checked so hopefully it will start populating.

Thanks!

Keep in mind that the autosuggest feature does not reference your Contacts
at all.

Brian,

Understand.  There are some e-mails not in my contacts that the auto
complete makes just that much easier to deal with.

Thanks!

This is kind of related. I've been trying to find the registry key that
contains the recently used e-mail address list so I can clear it, but I
haven't had any luck. I found the KB article a couple of years ago but I
can't find it now. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no registry key. These addresses are stored in a separate file with
an NK2 extension.

To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:

We wrote a utility for opening, editing, adding data, exporting, etc. for
the NK2 file.  You can find it at www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm.  It's
called Owtlook.  If you contact me through that web site, I'll send you our
"Everything you ever wanted to know about the NK2 file but were afraid to
ask" document.
