After a total hard disk failure on my Dell Inspiron 8200, I had to reinstall
my original Dell-supplied Windows XP Pro and Office XP Small Business onto a
replacement drive. Installation was apparently successful, all Office
programs were activated and worked, including Outlook. I then went to
Microsoft's Windows update and Office update sites, and downloaded and
installed all recommended updates. When I then attempted to open Outlook, it
failed to load, and presented the following error message:
"Unable to open your default email folders. The .DLL file for the
information service could not be found. MAPI was unable to load the
information service PSTPRX.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed
and configured."
I have tried all obvious remedies, including complete un-installation of all
Office components and programs and reinstallation from scratch. All other
Office programs work fine. Outlook continues to fail to load, with the same
error message.
Suggestions? Help?

Did you try creating a new mail profile via the mail applet in the control
panel? (don't copy the existing one. create a new one and see if the same
error occurs. if it doesn't, switch to the new profile and delete the old
one.)

I accidentally deleted Microsoft Outlook. I have all my discs from Dell.
Windows.Nt, the Installer Disc, Applications and Files, etc.. Can I reinstall
Outlook from the DELL back up discs?

If it was there when the machine was delivered, yes. If not, no.

I had the same problem and have solved it. Go to the Microsoft knowlage base
and typein PSTPRX.DLL scroll down to workaround and follow the instructions.
