I have a 3 year old computer running XP-Pro installed with both OE 6
and Outlook 2002.

Since people at the office are starting to invite people to meetings
using calendar I finally have to take the plunge and convert all of my
mail in OE to Outlook.

I tried exporting all of my messages using file/export/messages.

Guess what? It did not work. The outlook.pst became too large. (Limit
is 2GB)

Next step.
I created a personal folder in outlook. It now shows up in the outlook
directory tree.

In OE I select to export all of my "sent" files from OE. This goes
pretty quick. I start Outlook at it sees them all in the sent folder in
"Outlook-today". The outlook.pst is now 600MB in size.

I move these sent files into a special directory in my personal folder.
Outlook-Today has nothing in it now. I then select to compact
Outlook.pst and it takes hours. I wtach its size slowly decrease with
time. What in the world is it doing that causes it to take so long?

anyways...

Is this pretty much the only way to get large folders from OE into
Outlook. Is there anyway to go straight from OE into a personal folder?

thanks in advance!!

The way to handle this situation is to use multipl PSTs, as you've chosen.

It's removing the white space from the file.  White space is all those
deleted files in your mail PST that you moved to your second PST.

Outlook Express can export only to Outlook's delivery location (Outlook
Today).  You can manage the process by transferring specific folders from OE
and then moving those folders within OL to other PST(s).
