I'm using Outlook 2003 and XP home.  Is there a way to get Outlook to
automatically for check mail when I open the program?

You might want to try -
Tools - Options - Mail Setup Tab - check the Send when connected box and
click the button for send/receive settings

Thanks for the reply.  I see where I can schedule the time between
checking and where I can automatically check mail when exiting but not
where to get the program to automatically check for mail when I open
it.

Try Tool - Send/Receive - Send/Receive Settings - Define Send/Receive Groups

Hooray!!  I checked "send and receive every xx minutes and now when I
open the program it checks the mail.

Setting that automatic time causes Outlook to check when it starts.
