Hyperlinks not working in Outlook 2000

I just reinstalled my OS a couple of weeks ago. After I installed and
configured office 2000, I discovered that when I clicked a hyperlink in
the preview pane or an open message in Outlook that it would open the
folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT and the link
would not open my browser or do anything else. In the status bar of
Oultlook it does show the correct url. Also, when I get emails from our
exchange server when a checking rule was triggered and I have to choose
approve or delete for an action, the same folder opens and nothing else
happens. Before I reinstalled my system, nothing like this happened
before.

Our email here in the office comes of the sever of course, but we each
have our personal pst files on our computer and not the sever. Mail is
delivered to our personal folder and not the mailbox on the server. So
I do not know if the source of this problem has something to do with
client/server communication. I do have many rules defined for mail to
be going to differenent folders within my inbox. Perhaps those have
something to do with it? I did have these rules before and it worked
fine then.

I have uninstalled outlook, and that didn't fix it. I uninstalled
office and that didn't do it either. I have run windows file protection
and nada. I also have tried scanpst but it tells me my pst is in use,
even though outlook is not open and no instances are running. It tells
me this even after I reboot and do nothing else first. I have checked
my url associations and they are not broken.

If you have any advice I would really appreciate it. Because as of
right now I have no control over the quarinteened messages on the
exchange server, and I cannot open hyperlinks. I don't want to do
another reinstall, but if that is the only fix. . .

Thanks in advance!

Assuming Internet Explorer is your browser, open IE and click Tools>Internet
Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings and see if that helps.

Thanks for the assist, but I found the problem. I have ie 7 beta
installed and after spending many hours looking how to unistall it
(because my mcafee updater thought it was netscape!) I now have my
problems with outlook solved! Careful about those betas, right?
