Hiding Tasks by Category in Outlook Today

Hi,

I've seen similar posts but not one that directly answers this
question.  I'd like to hide tasks in Outlook by Category.  In other
words, I'd like to display tasks that I've assigned to a business
category on the Today page.  But, I don't want to see tasks that I've
assigned to a personal category.  This is especially of recurring tasks
I have set up (such as get the car inspected every May - you get the
idea).  I do want to be reminded of the tasks via the Reminder bar,
just not see them all the time when in Outlook Today mode.  Note: not
displaying Outlook Today is not an answer I'm looking for here.

For the tasks that I do want to show up on Outlook Today, I've also
read that some tasks way in advance of their due date.  I read that
there is some work around to use a start date, not a due date to avoid
having tasks appear too early.  Could someone shed some light on this?
Does this work for recurring tasks, such as writing a monthly business
report?

Thanks in advance  :)

Well you don't want to hear a non- Outlook today solution.  So I won't put
much effort in here!

Mine's the Start Date solution through the 1 day view of the Calendar.  It
works beautifully for all bar Recurring Tasks - I work around that by using
recurring events.

What version are you running anyway? - please post at least that much for us
everytime as it really does make a difference with many issues.

Judy,

I'm running Outlook 2003 (Version 11).  Could you expand upon our
solution as you stated below?

In 1 day view of the Calendar.  Show the TaskPad. View TaskPad.

Right click the column header of the TaskPad and you can customise the
view to show a filtered View (in your case only Tasks that are Category
Business).

If you use Start Date, it's possible to have the TaskPad show you the wrok
you need to be focussed on each day - set the TaskPad view (View |TaskPad
View | Active Tasks for Selected days) and then this 1 day view of the
Calendar show you meeting each day and the relevant Tasks as well.  If I
want to call you in 3 days time, I make a Task with a Start Date 3 days
ahead. It will appear on teh TaskPad then and go red the day after Due Date.
BTW use the Start Date button and save yourself a lot of clicks.

Anything you don't do will appear in the TaskPad forever.

Judy,

Thanks for the info.  Those are tips that I had not seen elsewhere.
