I'm trying to set up intra-office email w/o using exchange. I have client
machines that have outlook on.

Is it possible to set this up?

If not are there any inexpensive email solutions that work with email,
calendar sharing and task?

Thanks very much

or your preferred search engine.  Many people find mDaemon mail server meets
their needs, is inexpensive and mimics Exchange quite well.  If you are
looking for an open source program, some folks have found Scalix to be a
good Exchange substitute.
