I have just installed Office 2000 on a brand new computer (P4 250GB) running
WinXP Media Edition.

All of office works fine (word, excel, ppt, access) and so DID Outlook.
Until I turned the machine off overnight, now it keeps coming up with
"Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close" whenever I try to open
it. All other programmes are working fine. I have downloaded all Windows
updates and Office updates but it's still doing it.

Can anyone help??

Thanks

check your event logs for errors, first clear them out and then
reproduce the problem then check the logs, if nothing obvious arises
then ...

insert the office disk and repair all i personally would reinstall
office, ensure you goto the advanced section and select run all from
your computer

make sure you have upto date antivrus engine running and microsoft
antispyware installed and running

i've uninstalled office, frontpage and the other software i put on, and
reinstalled just office but it still does it.
i have McAfee Security Centre on there, i've tried disabling that in case it
blocks outlook but that makes no difference!

Try detect and repair from the Help menu.
You can also post any error numbers if you see them.
If there is anything listed in your application event viewer, post the event
ID and source because that information might be helpful.
Also check the size of your PST.
You can also (unhide hidden files and folders first) rename your outcmd.dat
and *.srs files. Post back to let me know how it goes.

Start Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") to see if the problem
continues.  Safe mode eliminates loading any add-ons that you installed.
