Incoming OL2003 e-mails are duplicate

When I receive an e-mail, I always receive a duplicate. The second one is
delivered at the the same time as the first one with exact same sent date.

My new computer has OL2003.

I followed the "Reconnect your old Outlook data file" instructions per
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010771141033.aspx
and imported “mailbox.pst”.  I then had 2 files in the C:\Documents and
Settings\Barry G\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder,
which included the original "Outlook.pst" file.  I then closed the original
"Personal Folders" file.

The Outlook folder still contains the 2 ".pst" files, the original and the
imported.

Everything worked in the transferring of my old contacts and e-mails.
Everything seems to work fine with OL2003 but my problem is that I always
receive duplicate e-mails.  How do I fix the problem?  Thanks in advance,
Barry G.

Try turning off AV plugin.
PS If your origonal OL version was pre OL2003, your method of recovering
data file means you are still using old format pst, which has a size
limitation and is apparently not as robust as 2003 version pst

What is the AV plugin and what is the path to its location to turn it off?

My original OL is from 1997 but I had upgraded to Windows98 2E.

My new E-mail accounts folder lists 2 accounts, which are
mail.bellsouth.net, type POP/SMIT (Default)
and
barrygkay, type POP/SMIT

Could 2 E-mail accounts be the reason for duplicate e-mails?

AV = antivirus
plugin ie check email, usually in Symantec/Norton options

DL,
Others had suggested same as a possible solution.  I ended up calling Dell
On Call at 1-800--937-3759 where I get free tech support of anykind for 30
days since I just purchased  a packaged computer deal.  My problem has been
solved.  For others who have the same problem, here is how Dell guided me:

Go to Tools, Send/Receive, Send/Receive Settings, Define Send/Receive Groups,

and then I clicked on the highlighted All Groups.

two e-mail accounts are listed, which are:

mail.bellsouth.net
and
my personal account

and the exact same setting options are enabled when I click from one account
to the other account.  Dell said not to delete one of the accounts.  All I
needed to do was disable the “Receive mail items” for the my personal
account, which I did.  I then closed Outlook 2003 and reopened it.  Dell had
me send some test e-mails to myself and then they sent one . . . and so far,
I’m not getting duplicates.
