Zoe - 24 Dec 2005 08:51 GMT I am setting up a new computer and am now using Outlook 2003 with Windows XP. I am using an account that has been working fine on Outlook Express, but having read previous correspondence, have deleted that account fom outlook express. The tests say it's working fine but I don't get the test email. I presume it's going somewhere - but where?! Can anyone help?
Gerry - 24 Dec 2005 09:16 GMT Zoe--I am having the exact same problem. Will be curious to hear what the solution is.

It will send emails, just not receive them. If I use "Windows Mail" it will pull down the emails that I sent. Outlook goes through it's send/receive process but shows no errors but also doesn't show that it downloaded any emails.
Very weird.

What is "Windows Mail"? Outlook Express maybe? The webmail interface (which is on the server so nothing gets pulled down)?
How do you know it isn't an issue with the view for your Inbox? If you are seeing the e-mails in whatever is "Windows Mail", Outlook Express, or the webmail interface, that is NOT Outlook so it could still be a problem with the view that you are using for your Inbox.
If Outlook is reporting no errors and doesn't download anything then either the view is hiding anything it downloaded or there is nothing to download (i.e., you are polling a different account).
Zoe - 27 Dec 2005 07:41 GMT Problem solved. I actually got on to my ISP and ran through it with them. Very obviously really, I had the mail server correct but was looking at the wrong account i.e. I had entered existing but incorrect Logon details. Your symptoms sound identical to mine, Gerry- is it worth checking that?

If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'" I contacted my ISP provider and they say all is working at their end, we also verified all my settings and all was ok. I ran the test settings and they seem to work fine. Also I viewed my emails online and they are there, just not downloading into Outlook. I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue! Thanks in advance, Chris

You don't need it any way and it can cause lengthy delays when communicating with the server. You might also want to increase the server timeout value on the Advanced tab of your account properties.

Chriscanfan19 - 17 Sep 2007 03:30 GMT Yes! Brian! Thank you! I disabled the anti virus scan and all my messages came in !! Thank you so much for your help. Now, the worryer in me is wondering "is it safe not to scan my incoming messages for potential viruses?" Thanks again, Chris

As long as your on-access (real-time) scanner continues to run, you're protected. Moreover, the best antivirus tool you own is on your shoulders. Simply refrain from opening any messages from people you don't know, deleting them immediately if they contain an attachment. Moreover, even if you appear to know the sender, if the message has an attachment and you weren't expecting one, delete the message or check (by phone or a new e-mail message - not a reply) if the person sent you the attachment.
