I was using Outlook 2000 and now have 2003. I moved my files from one to the
other with no problems except that whenever I open the 2003 a new set of "My
folders" which is what I call the folder with my calendar tasks etc. opens.
I now have 6 folders of My folders with the same info in each folder. The
Outlook 2000 is on another computer which is not even being used.
What am I doing wrong??

Hard to say since you never told us what you did.
It is obvious, however, that you did not "move your files with no problem."
You used the wrong procedure and now have a corrupt profile.
Create a new profile and read the Help files to learn the proper procedure
to migrate data:

I backed them up to a disc and moved them to the new computer as stated in
the Microsoft office help. Everything  is in my new Outlook that should be
there except each time I open it, there is another set of files of the same
type. Everything is being duplicated.

That doesn't tell us anything. The answer lies in how you "moved them" and
how you configured Outlook to use your former PST file as its default. You
did not follow the directions I posted.
