Outlook freezing up when it is "synchronizing folders?"

This seems to be happening every couple days now.  I have to go to my task
manager and end Outlook.  I do not use the offline mode so I don't think I
even need this operation anyway.  Any ideas for this novice?

Are you receiving any large emails when this happens?  What happens if you
just walk away and let it finish?

unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

After furious head scratching, DB asked:
