Well stone the crows as the saying goes.
Have spent a few hours last night and today with Ntl Boradband help
line asking for there help and they said its nothiing to do with them
and they cant help third party emails. Spoke to my service provider and
all of a sudden it comes back on by its self.
Though is is a bit of a coincidence NTL are doining some major work
this week.
Fingers crossed and i hope its ok.

I've got no idea what that error is - it doesn't turn up in any of my
searches. Can you give the exact text of the error message (select it using
the mouse, then press Control-C to copy it, and paste into your post)? Is
that error number in the "can't find the server" message, or in a separate
message?
One of the realities of ISP customer service is that they'll always blame
your software and say they don't support it, rather than investigate it
themselves...

It would seem the fault does not lie with your machine by with NTL, no
matter what they claim.

Whether or not you can access the website or your mail via a web interface
has nothing to do with wether or not you can access that mailbox via a POP
server. You're not proving anything about whether the POP server is running
when you access a web server.

If you'd include the settings you have for the account and for the proxy
settings, perhaps someone can tell you why they don't work.

Make sure Outlook is listed as an allowed program in the firewall and
disable scanning mail in the AV program.
