Hello.  I must have checked the button to connect using a microsoft exchange
server when setting up outlook (I had no idea what it meant) and now I cannot
open outlook at all.  I get a message outlook could not log on.  Check to
make sure you are connected to the network and are using the proper server
and mailbox name.  The connection to the microsoft exchange server is
unavailable. outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

Please help.  I have been trying for days searching and trying different
options to no avail.  I do not belong to any server, it is just me.

Use the Mail applet in Control Panel to remove the reference to the Exchange
server in your mail profile.
