You should never use export and import to transfer Outlook data.
There is no address book in Outlook. All Outlook data is stored in one file.
The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the
mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

i know that...but...my other WinXP Pro SP2 pc with OL2000 on it
provides a list of folders to export and that list includes the
address book, etc. so why isn't that list visible on this pc??? any
thoughts?

No list ever included an address book. Your other folders should all appear,
however, if your Importers and Exporters are installed and if your profile
is connected correctly to its data source.
