MS Office Forum / Outlook / New Users / March 2006File Names missing last letters - Marti
I am running Outlook 2003 (11.8010.6568) SP2 Noticed just recently (yesterday) my Outlook folders are missing one or more letters from their name. For instance, Saved Items are "Saved Iten" When I click rename "Saved Items" on the right click menu, it shows the correct name in the little box, and is ok after I click out. But when I re-open Outlook, the names are missing digits again. No problems with any function of Outlook as far as I can tell, but it is bothersome. Any help or advice is appreciated. I do use Windows Update and have all updates for Windows and Office applied. I also use Norton for virus, and MS for spyware, but haven't done anything to those other than updates. No Outlook add-ons lately, new or updated. Are you sure your Navigation Pane is wide enough to show the entire name? Click on its right edge and drag it farther right to make it a little wider. One is to delete the file yourprofilename.xml in the (hidden) folder %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook (where "yourprofilename" is the name of your mail profile) and the other is to try running Outlook once with the /resetfoldernames command line switch. But running from the command line with the /reset opened Outlook exactly right! Unfortunately, when I closed Outlook and opened it with the shortcut, the names were back to missing letters. I created a shortcut with the /reset switch, and it works fine, just a second longer to open Outlook - is there any harm or danger in using this? Or any other ideas? Or any other ideas? Do you have any add-ins? While I don't think the /resetfoldernames will hurt anything, you shouldn't need it every time you run Outlook. Brian, I used the /safe command and it opened with all the names right. But again when I used just outlook.exe the names were missing letters. I checked the add-in manager, and found something I didn't recognize: Redemption Helper Outlook Extension. Don't have a clue, but when I disabled it and restarted Outlook.exe with no switches the names were complete... Also have Exchange Extensions Property Services disabled, doesn't seem to impact my problem either enabled or disabled, but not sure what it is. Anyway, unless Redemption Helper is critical to something, I think that solved it - for now, anyway! Let me know if you have any other suggestions, and thanks for all your help. Marti |
