Aloha mark,
Some ISPs only accept mail messages from senders connected to their network
-- it's an anti-spam measure. When you're connected at home, no problems,
you're on their network. From the hotel, however, you're not. So you can
receive but not send.
Check with your ISP but that's my guess on what's happening.

Indeed. Some hotels provide a mail server to use for outbound. You'd have
to put that address in your outlook settings.
In that case, you can send outbound from the hotel server with your normal
'from' address.

Aloha mark,
Tell them just what you've told us and ask if they restrict sending e-mail
from connections not directly on their network. If they say "Yes" ask if
they have any suggestions for how you can overcome that when you travel./

Did you configure the e-mail account so you authenticate to your ISP's
mail server (since you are coming from off-network)? Also, when coming
from off-network, many ISPs require you to use non-standard ports and
other settings, like SPA or SSL. What did your ISP say when you called
their tech support?

I would contact the supplier of the email access from the Hotel. They are
used to working with various ISPs and connections and will most likely have
the solution based on their setup, not the ISP.
