Synchronizing Locally Installed Outlooks

After furious head scratching, Steve in SF asked:

Thanks. Seems like a pretty basic function. How long has Outlook been around?

Outlook is a client, and was originally designed to work with  Exchange
server, which makes all this (and more) possible.
