Long Reminder sound

I have set a reminder wav sound using a 5 minute piece of music. It is
lovely music (thank goodness!)
because when the reminder pops up and it starts playing, I cannot stop it !
There is no Windows Media Player button at the bottom of the page and
dismissing the reminder does not end it.

I could change the sound to a much shorter item but then I might miss it if
I'm out of earshot for a few moments.
At the moment I can always turn the volume down so it is not a serious
problem but I should still like to know
how to cut it off if the need arises.

Can someone help please ?

Can't. It plays the file you select. If you happen to pick a long piece,
it plays the long piece.

If you're afraid you'll miss mail, set up a catch-all rule that pops up the
messagebox saying you have new mail, or live with the longer sound.

Thanks fhm, but I'm not talking about an email. My reminder is for a
calendar appointment
and may be, for example, in 4 hours time. If I have gone to the kitchen to
get a snack I
won't see a screen message and might forget to make a time critical phone
call at the
necessary moment !!

Any WAV file used for a reminder sound will play until the WAV is finished.
There is no way to stop it on demand. Use that sound file and wait for it to
be finished or choose a different sound, those are the choices.

As Ken said, still the same answer. Outlook plays the file you tell it to
play, it isn't a media player.
