Is it possible to apply multiple design templates within the same
presentation?  E.g., one design template to the first ten slides and another
to the next ten slides and so on?

Don,
If you are using PPT 2002 (XP) or 2003, you can set up multiple masters
within your presentations. If you are using one of the older versions, you
will need to fake it with linked presentations or hand formatting for the
slides different than your masters.
