I just upgraded to PPT 2003.  Video that I've produced on my Desktop will
always run in Media player on both my laptop and desktop.  However, the same
video (depending on the codec used) will sometimes only run on my desktop
PPT, sometimes only on my laptop PPT and sometimes on neither.  The .m2v
files wouldn't run on my desktop PPT any ran exactly to the halfway point
(i.e 10 second video would run for 5 seconds) on my laptop.  I have yet to
find a high quality codec that will run on both.  My latest attempt was
Microsoft MPEG-4 v2.  Just see a black screen on my laptop when the video is
clicked (runs fine on my desktop).  Why won't PPT download the necessary
codec as Microsoft claims?  Does anyone know how to get a hold of this codec
for Windows / PPT (not media player)?

Start with reading
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm .  It provides a
lot of information about how PowerPoint handles multimedia in PowerPoint.
