I need to insert a media clip into a power point presentation, but it's a
real media file and it doesn't seem to be an acceptable format for powerpoint

You're correct.  PowerPoint does not play real media files.  You'll need to
convert the file to mp3 or WAV.

If you have Real Player installed on your system, you are likely to have
problems with other types of media files because  the Real Player installer
modifies some key Windows settings that PowerPoint relies on.  See
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm for the full
story.
