how do i shorten a sound clip?

I am creating my first ppp for a college techno class. I want to add a short
patriotic clip. I have selected a clip, but I only want to play about half of
it. How do I shorten the clip so that it fits in nicely with the slide? Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to edit it in audio editing software. Others have recommended Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. I believe that it is free.
