I'd like to be able to store the slide numbers hyperlinked to. These may not
be sequentially. Will then use the values in the array to navigate backwards
via the slide numbers recorded. I therefore need an event that stores that
value each time a slide is reached. Is that possible?

Look at the free TrackShow add-in at http://officeone.mvps.org/addins.html.
It tracks the slide show and enables you to go back on the same navigation
route.
