I make a weekly presentation for our church using P.P. 2003.  Because of our
low ceiling in the church, I have to make all the slides project just on the
top of the screen (so everyone can see).  I make 100+ slides every week.  I
am a new P.P. user, and just learning about Master slides.  I have been
changing the slides manually in the past.  I took the tutorial and learned
about Masters.  I want to change the Master Slides so that I will have a
Title Slide Master (which I have no problem with) and a Slide Master that
will use the "Title Only" slide keeping the projections at the top.  I have
made the necessary changes on the Master, (slide layout, text at top, font
size, design, etc.) and then Preserve the Master.  Everything works fine, but
when I add a New Slide, it always comes back with a "Title & Text" layout,
but includes all my other changes.  With a click on the "Title Slide" Layout
it changes, but I don't think I should have to do that.  What am I doing
wrong?  Any suggestions?

Hi,

By default, PowerPoint formats new slides with the Title & Text layout from
the Slide Master.  Try clicking on Insert, Duplicate Slide and then edit the
contents of the duplicate slide to save the extra formatting step.

I don't think you're DOING anything wrong but maybe you're expecting the wrong
thing from PowerPoint.

There are slide masters and there are slide layouts.

You've changed the slide master, but when you add a new slide (other than the
first slide in a new presentation), PowerPoint adds a Title & Text *layout*
slide.  Other than by doing some special programming in VBA, there's not a lot
you can do about this, but perhaps that's not the end of it.

What's the problem you're trying to solve?  Can you modify the Slide master so
that the Title and Text slide produces the layout you need?
