I'm having trouble inserting mp3 sound clips into a slide presentation using
PP'97 with Windows98. When I open the insert sound box, the mp3 files don't
show up as 'sound files' but do show as 'all files' - then will not install.

Any ideas?

Phil,

powerpoint 97 cannot insert mp3 files.

later versions can insert mp3s, and they should playback ok in powerpoint 97
according to....

I've had same problem, but with WMA files.  Just found out from another tech
that 97 won't take WMA files, either.  So I guess the question for us both is
what kind of music/sound files WILL PowerPoint 97 allow you to insert?  And
how can you convert MP3 or WMA files into an acceptable format?

PowerPoint 97 lists the three types of files that it will play when you use the
Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File, i.e. Midi, WAV and RMI.  Use
google to search for "convert MP3 to WAV" or " WMA to WAV".  Forget RMI.
