installing PowerPoint 2002 on XP

I upgraded Windows Me to XP Home edition.  After a HD replacement, I
reinstalled Office XP Small Business.  The PowerPoint 2002 program I
purchased separately does not want to install, and the message I get is
“Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine.  Please
select the drive where the qualifying product can be found.”

Under this message is a window showing the drives as A:\  or C:\ or D:\ and
it appears to be wanting a path for the product validation point.

I have looked on Microsoft’s web site for a number of hours and cannot find
any solution to installing PowerPoint 2002.  If you know of the solution, or
the path I should look for, or if you could direct me to where to find it, I
would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Morgan

You apparently bought an upgrade version of PPT 2002. That's fine, but
Office XP Small Business Edition is not a qualifier for the upgrade, so you
must have had some previous software (PPT 97 or 2000, maybe?) that was a
qualifier. When PPT's setup pops up with that message, put the install CD
for the qualifying product into the CD drive. Once the PPT setup "sees" that
qualifier, you should be able to continue with the installation.

You're right.  I installed PPT97 from my Office 97 Professional disk and
PPT2002 went right over it.

Thanks for the help.

You must have previously upgraded from an earlier version of Office because the
PowerPoint 2002 (XP) upgrade does not apply to Office XP Small Business
Edition - - never has.  Did you have Office 97 or Office 2000 before?
