I opened several presentations that I created and they are read-only (I
cannot edit).  Power Point will not let me save as a new name.  How do I
change from read-only?
Michael Koerner - 31 Oct 2005 16:16 GMT
In Windows Explorer, right click the file, select properties, and remove the
check mark from Read Only.

Michael:  I tried to un-check but Read Only was not checked.  The message I
am getting is "document cannot be edited because it contains read-only
embedded fonts".
Any help is appreciated.

What version of PowerPoint do you have, and do you receive any messages when
you open the presentation?

If so and the messages refer to embedded fonts, have a look here:

I don't know yet.  I discovered the embedded font was Garamond and I am
trying to locate a website so I can download.  The least expensive I found
was $22 pounds.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Garamond covers a broad spectrum of different named fonts. There are a
number of free downloads if you just enter Garamond Font into Google.

There are probably several versions of Garamond out there.  You do NOT want to
purchase it from Adobe.  Not that there's anything wrong with their fonts, far
from it, but it'll be a Type1/PS font and since those can't be embedded in PPT,
it's a sure thing that the Adobe version won't solve your problem.

Garamond ships as a TrueType font with several MS products.  For some bizarre
reason, it appears to be part of all versions of Office *but* 2002 though.

Have a look here to see if you can confirm my reading of it:

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/default.aspx

Perhaps you have one of the other products that includes Garamond, though, and
can install it from there.

As I understand it, the same info applies to 2002 SP3 as to PPT 2003.
