Can you go to the Format menu and choose Background (while viewing the
master)? From there you should be able to choose white as the background.
Alternatively, you might try clicking on everything in the background
(besides the placeholders for text) and deleting them.

Thanks David, shortly after sending this question, I did find that option. I
was trying to remove it as a "picture," then discovered your recommendation
below.
