Question about using sounds in a Power Point slide show

I notice that PP does not use MP3's in it's sound file types. I had to
convert it to a wav file using Roxio and it is huge. Does anyone have any
other suggestions about what or how I can convert a MP3 into a smaller file
other than a wav file that PP can use for a presentation?

PowerPoint uses MP3 files, they do not embed like wave files, and have to
accompany your presentation if you take it from one computer to another.
Which version of PowerPoint are you using?

I am using MS PP 2000 SP-3 (9.0.6620). Will a newer version embed an
MP3 like a WAV file. I was hoping that I didn't have to have 2 files
when I run the PPS. If that is the case, then I will go ahead with the
WAV file.

Regardless of the version, PowerPoint only embeds WAV files

Hi Lance

when you get a wave file you can compress it just with the Windows sound
recorder
(start; program; accessories; entertaining or some thing like that, my
Windows is a french one)
the menu sequence:
files; properties; convert now
at "format" you select "MPEG layer 3"
at "attributs" you choose your compression rate
don't forget to SAVE *AS*

there is a bench of free softwares doing this (dBpowerAmp; CDEX )
and probably Roxio has this possibility ("options" when "save to" ?)
