I want to be able to show the first few slides of a Ppt presentation as a
continuous loop, and then be able to end the loop and continue with the rest
of the presentation using mouse clicks.

Is it possible?

You can do that with custom show (Slide Show > Custom Shows).
In the custom show, add the slides you want to loop.
Then, create an action button. Go to the action setting and have it
hyperlink to the custom show. Put a checkmark to show and return.

Next, click Slide Show > Set up show.
Put a checkmark to Loop continuously until esc.
Also, select all the slides that are in the custom show, right click and
select hide slides.

Now, when you press esc in the custom show, you will return to the slide
with action button. Mouse click on it will bring you to the rest of the
presentation.
Feel free to send me an email for sample at pptheaven[at]gmail[dot]com.

2007 should work the same way. Where exactly are you having problems?

I got the looping project to work....but have found a few new ones...

1. I have the current date/time inserted into both ppts.  However when it's
been looping through, only the 2nd ppt has the time changing.  The first ppt
opened does not update the time with each cycle/loop is goes through

2. Is there a way to always have ppt open and update links?

3. Off of that...is there a way to get the powerpoint slide show to open up
right away showing the show/loop, instead of having to click "view slide show"

I don't know the answer to numbers 1 and 2, but for 3, you should save the
file as a PPSX. To do so, go to Office Button and click Save As. Then choose
PowerPoint Show (*.PPSX) from the "save as type" dropdown box. Now when you
double-click it in a window, it will open in Slide Show View.

If you need to edit the PPSX, open PowerPoint, then use Office Button | Open
and navigate to the PPSX. It will then open in normal editing view.
