voice recording

I want to use voice recoring in power point and also in movie maker. My PC is
quite well speced and newish, I have inserted a microphone - but I can't get
the thing working. Any ideas?

Hmm yes and No... great link but I hit a probem when it says."powerpont is
not recieving sound from the microphone. the two suggeastions seem to relate
to a different version of windows - it says go into "multimedia, on audio tab
check resording settings the other option is to do something with the
language bar - niether of hich I can find!! I have windows XP if that helps.

I think I'm moving things on - the link was helpful (ish).
I have located Sound recorder in windows and when I try to use it it says
"another application is recording audio. Stop recording wuth this other
application and then try to recors with Sound Reecorder again."
Any more ideas? As far as I'm away I'm not recorgding wirh another
application!!

Check the following:
Open Start - Control Panel - Sound and Audio Devices
Check sound / voice tabs to see if your soundcard is selected as recording
device.

Start - Control Panel - double click System management icon - double click
Services -Windows Audio - check what status is given - should be started and
not stopped or something like that. If it is stopped, click on the advanced
tab at the bottom of the dialog, now in the top left click on restart
service.
