I have links set up to an excel file containing data for my presentation.

I've had to copy the files from a server location to my hard drive to run
the presentations, but none of the links have updated to the new hard drive
location.

I went into Edit => Links and did 'Change Source' for each link in turn to
specify the new file location, then saved and closed the file.

When I reopen the file, all the links revert to the old file location.

1) Why has this happened and 2) Is there a quicker way of changing multiple
links?

After doing the Edit Links trick and clicking OK, go back to the same place and
verify that the links have changed as needed.  If the linked file isn't on the
path you say it is, PPT just smiles quietly to itself and ignores you.  No
error messages, no natter.  Tsk.

Our FixLinks addin might be able to automate the link fixup for you.

The demo's free but doesn't demo this part of the feature set, unfortunately,
but if you'll get in touch via email ( steve at-sign pptools dot com) and
describe how you've created the links and possibly shoot me a few example
files, I can set up a test and make sure it'll work for you.

I changed the links, saved the file, went to Edit => Links and the links all
specified the new path.

I then closed and reopened the file and all the links had reverted back to
the original path.

Fine, but did you read and try my suggestion?
