MS Office Forum / General PowerPoint Questions / June 2006PowerPoint 2002 Crash (i'm not technical)
I've done my best to read all of the discussion on this board and I think I kind of understand what is going on but I still can't figure out what to do... I'm using PPT 2002. I've updated all of my office using Microsoft Office Update. Some of the people I work with are using PPT 2003 and I think my presentations crash because I think some of the images they have saved in 2003. I read http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00720.htm about the problem... BUT how can I fix the issue. It says that the person who created the presentation using 2003 has to save the image as PNG or JPG. Doughtfull that the person on the other end will want to resave the 20+ images. I don't want to use 2003 b/c I rely heavely on drawing straight lines with my pen during my presentations. 2002 holding down the Shift key give me that but 2003 they took the feature away. This is a deal breaker for me. Really not sure why my PPT crash... Please help, Thanks, Joe What are you doing when PPT crashes? Do you receive any error messages? If so, what do they say? I was copying a page from one PPT to another. I would make edits and save... during a save, my PPT would crash This happend quite a few times. See if anything here lets you recover it: Recovering a corrupt presentation http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00108.htm If you get it open, I'd recommend "round tripping" it to hopefully weed out the woollies. http://www.pptworkbench.com/html/round_trip.htm As for PPT crashing, does it crash if you open a new, blank presentation, add a couple of photos and cliparts, and then try to copy them to a new, blank presentation? I can follow the "round tripping" I'll do this... a.s for the PPT crashing... It seems to happen after I've had the file open after making edits to slides. I am not adding any new photos or clipart. I'm moving slides from one PPT to another. The PPT crashes when I try to save the file. the save get about 80% saved and just dies. Still trying to duplicate the sequesnce of events. Question, it there a version of PPT later then version 2002 that offers the presenter the ability to draw a straight line when in PEN mode? Can I just upgrade PowerPoint and not the other office applications (excel, word etc.)? If you haven't already, you might try locating your *.PCB file and deleting it. Do this while PPT is closed! The *.PCB is your toolbar. PPT will regenerate its default toolbars when you next start it up, but you'll lose any customizations you may have made. It's just that, over time, sometimes the PCB file gets wonky. I know I had one that grew to, like, 1.5MB in size! That's crazy big! You may have to order the PPT 2003 Upgrade online. I suspect most bricks and mortar stores don't carry it because most of their customers will want to just upgrade Office.
