Does anyone know what the status of the equation editor is in 2007?  Will the
Word equation editor be added for the final release?  Will the be some easy
upgrade path to convert the old equation objects to the new format?  Any ppt
with equations in it that I open do not display the equations properly.  I
would hope that at least this bug is fixed.

The Word equation editor will not be added to PPT. You can however
create an equation in Word and copy & paste it into PPT. That should
work.
MS is working on fixing the issues related to the old equation editor. I
don't know what the status is though.
