Presntation Overview Column

I want to put in a column at the left hand side of my ppt which lists
an overview of the presentation also highligting the section of ppt in
which i am, something of the kind done in latex by prosper.

What version of PPT do you use?

You could do something like this with some creative use of multiple masters in
2002 or later.

Alternatively, different images used as backgrounds or different color schemes
could distinguish sections in any version of PPT.
