Footer in Notes area will not show on notes (need page # to show)

I can't get the footer to work.  I can't tell if it is somewhere, but I can't
see it or if it is not making the footer at all.  Nothing shows.  Ideas for
troubleshooting?

Click on View Master, Slide master and make sure that the footer place holder is still there. Close the master, click on view, header and footer enter your footer information checkmark the footer box and apply to all.

Forgot to add, that if you have an image on your slide that covers the footer area, it will not show. If that is the case, then make the picture the background for that slide, and you footer will appear.
