I heard that Producer was not to be included in Office 2007, but that the
functionality may be rolled into Powerpoint 2007 -- is that the case, or is
that functionaly simply to be deprecated?

It's not rolled into PowerPoint 2007, that much I know.  Whether Producer will
be updated for 2007, though, I don't know.

That is true -- Powerpoint 2007 does not interoperate with Producer and
appparently there will be no new version of Producer that will.

AFAIK there is no even vaguely similar features in PPT 2007.

Yes -- that would seem to be the case.
