If you don't mind a click, then you can use a trigger animation. If you
need it to work with mouse over, then you have three choices:
1. Hyperlink to another slide (the option you mentioned)
2. Screen tips (the option mentioned in John's other message)
3. VBA (not too hard to pull off if you know any VBA and the end users will
have the full version of PowerPoint)

Trigger animation is fine, but how do I link the trigger to a specific
point oin the slide?
for example I may have a bulleted list, and during a presentaion, I
want to click on a bullet point and animate in a box with more detail

That is probably your best bet because the alternative is to create
different text boxes for each bullet point.

So John the second example onthe PPT you sent is animation, how did
you "hook" the hyperlink to the invisible object to an animation?
This is where I'm stuck
When I try to apply this, no matter when I clcik on the slide I get
the animation..how do I specify to animate only when clicking to a
specific portion of the slide (BTW, I have about 6-7 of these on one
slide)
Thnaks

Double click the entry for animation in custom animation and in the timing
tab goto triggers "animate on click of" In the case I sent you there's also
an exit animation under the entrance one which is triggered by a second click
on the hotspot (or in the case I sent the entire sphere)

What's the proper way to ascertain the name of each object?
Jerry
Thanks John and David for the help.
It works great. I can click the same text to display a pop up and to
close it
